Place Card of the Week: Little Elephants...And So Much More

I always get excited about those projects where I really get to pull up my sleeves and design something that not only do I hope (and pray) my client will love but something that I also love creating.  This one was just such a project.  Here's the thing: I absolutely love elephants both in design and in real life, so I was extra thrilled when I was asked to create place cards, table numbers and straw flags with an elephant theme.

Since all of my place cards, etc. are custom designed to fit each person's occasion, you may wonder what kind of information I base each design on.  Well, here is a little glimpse into what I had to go on for this particular project.  I was told that the baby shower's theme was "Oh Baby" with little elephants and that the colors for the theme were baby blue and bright yellow.  The lovely mom-to-be also wanted to make sure that the elephants would be "trunks up" because it means good luck.  Too cute!

Next, I asked her if it was okay if I used patterned paper, and she gave me the o.k., so I decided on baby blue argyle and baby blue and white stripped paper along with the yellow.  I considered designing an elephant myself, but I found an adorable elephant die cut by Martha Stewart, which was the perfect embellishment to the drink cards and table numbers.  For the straw flags (all 150 of them!), her only request was that "Oh Baby" be written in calligraphy on each one; and, of course, I always have to add a little sparkle with a few embellishment gems here there.  I'm told the cake for this baby shower was designed after what I designed here.  I can't wait to see it!  There will be a part 2 to this post coming soon, so you can all see this fun baby shower.  Yay!  Have a wonderful day, gang!

Nordic Style Dining

This eye catching white tablescape is a vision of Nordic loveliness with its pops of deep blue against the striking contrast of pure white, and, of course, the gorgeous flowers overflowing truly pull it all together.  The more I see these stunning white rooms, the more I'm conviced that I should repaint my entire house in all sorts of shades of white and subtle accent colors.  Hmm...not so sure that's going to fly with the hubby, but once the wheels start turning, I almost can't help myself!

On my dream list of to-do's, I would rip out all carpeting and replace the flooring with white painted floors or maybe dark floors with light walls or....okay, so, I'm going to have to give this some more thought, but it's been awhile since my last decorating spree, so I figure I'm about due.

As for this weekend, Ron and I are headed up north for a little road trip getaway.  The first night we will be rockin the best of bold worlds: first we will be going to a Rob Thomas concert.  I think we've seen him in concert about 10 times.  Does that make us super fans or super freaks?  Wait.  Don't answer that!  Then we will head out to a cabin we rented in the middle of some state park (I'm not telling where!).  Then it's off to Duluth to kick back, relax and visit my grandma and one of my besties who lives there.  Yahoo!

So with that, I wish you all a happy and safe weekend!

I'm not quite sure what it is that makes the idea of escaping to a little countryside cottage so intriguing, but whenever I come across images like this soothing villa, I just have to sigh.  I love the way the designer in this home incorporated blankets and throws over various pieces of furniture throughout the villa and even the added hanging over the staircase railing.  It gives the whole home a sort of whimsical charm that is so lovely and inviting.  Then there's the wide plank wood flooring mixed with rustic floor tile that adds just the right touch.  What else can I say?  I'm pretty much loving it all!

I stumbled across this darling wedding over at Snippet & Ink a couple weeks ago, and it was love at first site.  Really, it was.  So much so that I nearly panicked when I got so busy (hence, the lack of posts - sorry, gang!) that I forgot where I had seen it.  I really wanted to archive this adorable idea.  Good thing the ol' memory is still alive and kicking because just yesterday I had a massive brain wave send me over to check out the suspected culprit (Snippet & Ink), and to my delight, there it was.  Yay!

So...for those of you who haven't seen it yet, is this wedding adorable or what?!  I'm pretty smitten with the whole idea of hanging mismatched vintage tea cups with flowers at the end of each row of chairs, not to mention all of the other charming details.  I mean, seriously, this is some cute stuff!  Whew, I'm glad I got that out of my system.  Now, I'm off to discover more goodies in blogland.  Have a wonderful day, friends!

Hi, friends!  You may recall last week when I gave you a little sneak peek of a project I was working on over {here}.  I am officially done, and these little babies are on their way to London (hopefully, safe and sound), so I thought I would show you the finished product.  As is the case with most of my projects, these little goodies took much longer than anticipated...I really can't help myself...I just love adding extra details here and there, and all in all, I was happy with how they turned out.  I can't wait to see pictures of the wedding dessert buffet they were made for.  Such a fun theme!

Place Card of the Week: Carnival

I've had a bit of a late start this week, but better late than never, yes??  So...I found these darling stickers by Jolee's Boutique at Michael's, and I just wanted the bicycle sticker that came in the pack for a little gift I was working on for my husband.  I really had no intention of using the other "carnival" type stickers, but they were just so sparkly, and I really, really love sparkles and sparkly things and glitter and gemstones and, and, and...well, you get the point.  I'm like I big kid that still ooh's and ah's about such things.

Naturally, I decided I needed to put the remaining stickers to good use, so place cards it is.  And, it is fair season, afterall, so there's no better time like the present.  I think these place cards would be a fun addition to a children's carnival-themed party or even add a touch of fun to a dessert buffet.  What do you think?

Decorating in Yellow & White

Holy buckets!  Where does the time go?  It's already Wednesday, and I have been completely M.I.A. for almost a week now, so thank you SO much for those of you who are so sweet to stop by and check in on little ol' me.  The truth...well, the truth is that I've been battling a terrible case of the cold and flu.  I know, I know, in the middle of this beautiful summer, no less!  Well, I have to admit that I haven't gotten a cold in a good 2-3 years, so in all fairness, I'm probably due.  If only I could have scheduled it to come on any other time of the year...hmm...

Regardless of the extraordinary case of the sniffles going on over here, I'm actually in high spirits and am thankful to be able to take the time needed to rest and snuggle up with my puppies and my handsome hubby, but I have been missing you all, so I wanted to sneak in a little ray of sunshine here.  That being said, in honor of all things bright and cheery, and in hopes of kicking this cold as soon as possible, I wanted to share with you all a few cheery, yellow and white images to brighten your day, too.  I am especially loving that Matine Toile Duvet from Pottery Barn in the lower left hand corner.  My husband would never go for it, but a girl can always dream, right?

Have a wonderful day, gang!
